South Western Railway (SWR) have announced that they will offer free travel for veterans, serving troops, and cadets ahead of D-Day commemorations in Portsmouth. On Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June, these personnel will be able to travel on South Western Railway services to Portsmouth for free, all that is required is to show their military identification.

The offer is also open to members of the cadet forces and veterans who display valid identification, such as the MOD issued Veteran's Badge.

Andy Mellors, Managing Director for South Western Railway, said:

"We know that many veterans and former members of the armed services want to travel to Portsmouth Harbour for events around the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. I’m really pleased we are able to honour them with this offer of free travel.”
