Fire at Severn Tunnel Junction sparks major delays despite lines reopening

All lines through Severn Tunnel Junction railway station have reopened after a fire beside the track was brought under control.

Although trains are now able to run, the incident has caused damage to signalling cables, meaning disruption is continuing across the route. Services between Newport railway station and Bristol Parkway or Bristol Temple Meads railway station may still face delays of up to 60 minutes, as well as cancellations or alterations.

Rail operators have warned that the impact will be significant, with major disruption expected to continue until the end of the day while repairs are carried out and services are brought back to normal.

However, not all routes are affected. Trains running between Severn Tunnel Junction and Gloucester via Lydney are operating as normal and are not impacted by the incident.

Passengers are being advised to check before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys, as further changes may occur at short notice.
