Train services in the Burntisland area are operating under temporary speed restrictions following a road traffic accident close to the railway.

As a result, trains between Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy may face delays of up to 15 minutes. Some services could also be revised or diverted via Cowdenbeath while the situation remains ongoing. Disruption is expected to continue until at least 17:30.

ScotRail has confirmed that passengers can use their tickets at no extra cost on ScotRail services via any reasonable alternative route to reach their destination. Customers who have driven to a different station as part of their journey will also be able to use their ticket to collect their car on the return trip, provided they speak to a member of staff to have it validated.

Travellers are advised that ticket acceptance and alternative travel arrangements may be withdrawn at short notice, and should check with their chosen operator before setting out.

Update (17:31)

Disruption due to the above incident has now ended and trains are running normally.
