London Man Jailed After 18-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted On Train

A 47-year-old London man has been jailed after sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman on a train between Birmingham New Street and London Euston.

Adrian White, of Sandringham Road, London, appeared at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 26 May, where he was sentenced to eight months in prison. He had pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault.

White was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years following the British Transport Police investigation.

The court was told that the incident happened during the afternoon of 27 June last year, while the victim was travelling with friends. White got into the same carriage and began speaking to the group, despite his attention being unwanted.

He then directed inappropriate comments towards the woman. When she stood up to get off the train at Coventry, White sexually assaulted her.

The incident was reported to railway staff immediately by the group, and White was removed from the train. He was later arrested by British Transport Police officers, who went on to secure the sexual assault charge against him.

BTP Constable Dominic Johnston said:

“White’s sleazy and lewd behaviour unnerved the women who made it abundantly clear they did not wish to engage with him. Despite this, White continued to harass the group before his behaviour escalated and he sexually assaulted one of them. I commend the victim’s bravery in reporting what happened and for her constant and steadfast support of our investigation. I hope that this prison sentence will provide White with the opportunity to reflect upon his intolerable behaviour. Tackling sexual offending on the railway is a top priority for BTP and we encourage anyone who is victim of, or witness to, this crime type to report it to us by texting 61016.”
