Person Hit By Train Causes Major Evening Disruption Near Derby
Rail services through Derby were disrupted this evening after a person was struck by a train between Ambergate Junction and the city.
Emergency services attended the scene and, while the lines have since reopened, operators are warning that the knock-on impact will continue. Trains may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes as the timetable recovers. Disruption was expected to last until around 21:30.
East Midlands Railway confirmed that multiple routes were affected during the closure, including services on the Matlock, Derby, Nottingham and Cleethorpes corridor, as well as trains operating between Sheffield and London St Pancras.
Earlier, East Midlands Railway said:
"We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train, between Ambergate Junction and Derby. Services are disrupted on our Matlock/Derby/Nottingham/Cleethorpes and our Sheffield/London St Pancras routes. Emergency services are on site managing the incident. Trains are currently unable to run between Ambergate Junction and Derby. At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next 2 hours. As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 21:30."
