Rail disruption hits Redhill to Gatwick Airport line after track fault
A track defect in the Salfords area is continuing to cause disruption across a key stretch of railway, affecting services between Redhill railway station and Gatwick Airport railway station.
Passengers travelling through the area are being warned of delays of up to 15 minutes, as well as cancellations and alterations to services. The disruption is expected to last until the end of the day while the issue is managed.
Great Western Railway has advised that its trains between Reading and Gatwick Airport, running via Guildford and Redhill, may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Some services may terminate at Redhill and restart from there rather than completing the full route.
For passengers affected on Great Western Railway services, tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on the following operators between Redhill and Gatwick Airport:
• Southern between Redhill and Gatwick Airport
• Thameslink between Redhill and Gatwick Airport
Customers whose Great Western Railway service is cancelled may travel on either of the two trains before or after their booked service, including peak-time trains where restrictions would normally apply.
Meanwhile, Southern has warned that its services, along with those run by Thameslink, may experience delays of at least 15 minutes when passing through the Salfords area. This is particularly impacting trains running from East Croydon towards Gatwick Airport.
Passengers are being advised to continue using their usual routes where possible but to check before travelling, as further short-notice changes remain likely. Ticket acceptance and alternative travel arrangements may also be amended or withdrawn without warning.
