“Cholet le Pontreau “ is a civil airfield, open to public air traffic, located 2 km north of Cholet in Maine-et-Loire It also bears the name of "Aerodrome de Cholet Rolland-Garros- Le Pontreau ".
It is used for the practice of leisure and tourism activities, like light aviation and micro model aircraft (RC).
The first aeronautical vocation of the airfield was born in 1910, during the first air meeting organized jointly by the city of Cholet and the Nantes company "la libellule", on July 14th, where three aviators were hired: Versepuy, Obré and Roland Garros who did not yet have his pilot's license (Rolland Garros will spend a few months later in Cholet), but the gusty wind makes any attempt to fly perilous and the crowd gathered to see the planes in flight is displeased, forcing the aviators to wait for the night to return to their hotel.
