Glasgow to London Cab Ride

This two-disc DVD captures the full southbound journey of the Virgin Trains Record Run, which departed Glasgow Central at 12:37 on 22nd September 2006. Achieving a time of 3 hours 55 minutes 27 seconds, this non-stop Pendolino service set a new southbound record from Glasgow to London Euston, surpassing the previous record of 1981 held by the Advanced Passenger Train along the 401-mile route.

The special nine-coach Pendolino run was organised by Virgin Trains in collaboration with Railway Magazine and carried over 400 passengers, raising approximately £30,000 for the Virgin Unite charity, Heaven’s Angels. The DVD offers a full behind-the-scenes look at the event, including the preparation of the train at Polmadie depot the week prior to the attempt to ensure everything went smoothly.

Viewers can see the crew readying the train for departure at Glasgow Central, including the ceremonial naming of Pendolino set No. 390047 as Heaven’s Angels by Railway Magazine editor Nick Pigott. Footage from the driver’s cab captures the record-breaking run in its entirety, offering an unparalleled front-line perspective of high-speed operation on the West Coast Main Line.
