Experience one of Britain’s most awe-inspiring railways as we travel through the heart of the Scottish Highlands behind a powerful double-headed steam formation. Departing from Inverness, our run opens with a relentless ascent towards Slochd Summit, a 23-mile climb that immediately sets the tone for this remarkable main line journey. Towering viaducts, sweeping Highland landscapes and the raw sound of hard-working steam locomotives combine to create an unforgettable opening stretch.

After easing down the gradient towards Aviemore for a brief pause, the challenge begins anew. From here, we continue south into increasingly remote Highland country, climbing through Dalwhinnie towards the famous Druimuachdar Pass — the highest point anywhere on the National Rail network at 1,484 feet above sea level. The battle against gravity is matched only by the breathtaking surroundings, as our locomotives power their way across rugged terrain steeped in railway legend.

Once over the summit, gravity takes over and the train descends at pace through dramatic mountainscapes, rolling towards Pitlochry and beyond. The final stage sees one last burst of effort over the short but demanding gradients of Dunkeld Bank, before our hard-working doubleheader reaches the historic railway hub of Perth. As an added feature, this production also includes runs over both summits in the opposite direction, capturing the northbound climbs to Drumochter and Slochd.

Multiple camera positions bring every moment into focus, from footplate drama to lineside spectacle and expansive track-level views. Authentic locomotive sound, clear location titles and informative commentary combine to fully immerse you in this Highland epic — a standout celebration of steam on one of the most dramatic railway routes ever committed to film.
