Risky Woods is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed by Dinamic Software and released in 1992. The game was originally developed for the Amiga, Atari ST, and MS-DOS platforms, with the publisher varying by region—Electronic Arts published the game in North America, while Dinamic handled European releases. A version was also developed for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1993, marking the game’s only major console port and introducing some gameplay and graphical differences tailored to the hardware.

In Risky Woods, players control a young warrior named Rohan who is tasked with rescuing a group of ancient monks frozen in stone by the evil Draxos. The game takes place across a series of dark, mystical landscapes filled with enemies, hazards, and powerful bosses. Armed with magical projectiles, Rohan must navigate treacherous terrain, defeat waves of enemies, and unlock gates by collecting coins from fallen foes. The gameplay emphasizes fast-paced combat and quick reflexes, blending traditional platforming with light RPG elements like power-ups and weapon upgrades.

The game is not a sequel and has no known prequels; it was an original IP developed during a time when European studios were experimenting with fantasy-themed arcade-style games. Risky Woods was promoted primarily through magazine ads, demo disks, and word of mouth within the Amiga and Atari ST communities. Its visually striking art style and detailed sprite work were often used to market the game, particularly on home computers where graphical fidelity was a key selling point.

Upon release, Risky Woods received mixed to positive reviews. Critics praised its visual presentation, atmospheric environments, and challenging gameplay. However, some players found the difficulty curve steep and the controls somewhat imprecise, especially in the original computer versions. The Genesis port was noted for slightly improved controls and performance but had its own balance issues. Despite not becoming a major hit, Risky Woods developed a cult following, particularly among fans of European-made action games of the early '90s.
