SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off

SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off was first released as a free-to-play mobile game in early 2020, developed by Tilting Point in collaboration with Nukebox Studios and published by Tilting Point. The game launched initially in select regions before receiving a full release in May of that year on iOS and Android devices. Its success on mobile soon led to further availability, including a Windows version through the Microsoft Store later in 2020, giving fans another way to experience its fast-paced, cooking-based gameplay.

Following its mobile success, the game was expanded to other platforms under the title Extra Krusty Edition, a premium version that removed advertisements and included additional content. It released digitally on Nintendo Switch in 2021, later receiving a physical edition in 2023 that bundled extra downloadable content. Another spin on the game, SpongeBob: Get Cooking, was released in 2022 as part of Netflix’s growing library of games. Most recently, in July 2025, the Extra Krusty Edition was made available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, demonstrating the publisher’s long-term commitment to keeping the title active across a wide range of platforms.

On August 19, 2025, the game was officially released on Steam as SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off – Extra Krusty Edition, this time developed by Entalto Studios and published once again by Tilting Point. The Steam edition brought the same addictive time-management gameplay fans were familiar with, but enhanced with new content such as free decorative items, costumes, kitchen gear, and exclusive power-ups designed to improve the overall experience. Players step into SpongeBob’s shoes to help Mr. Krabs expand his restaurant empire across iconic Bikini Bottom locations, from the Krusty Krab to Sandy’s Treedome, cooking up dishes and serving customers under tight time limits.

Although the game does not have a direct prequel, it follows the tradition of SpongeBob-themed simulation and cooking titles, making it a natural evolution of the franchise’s casual gaming appeal. It has consistently been promoted around its fast-paced, lighthearted gameplay, with the Extra Krusty versions marketed as a way to enjoy the full experience without the grind of mobile monetization. Reception has varied depending on the platform: the mobile release was popular but drew criticism for heavy ads, while the Switch version was seen as fun yet lacking in polish. By contrast, the Steam release has been warmly received so far, with players praising its added value, smoother mechanics, and the absence of intrusive mobile-style monetization.
