Adventurous Feline Stowaway Rescued After Boarding Early Morning Train to Manchester

A daring cat had an unexpected adventure after sneaking onto an early morning train from Brighouse to Manchester Airport.

The 15-year-old black-and-white feline, named Angel, traveled nearly 50 miles (80km) from home after boarding the train at 03:55 GMT on 28 October. This wasn’t Angel’s first public transport escapade—she had previously caught a ride on a rail replacement bus.

Fortunately, the animal remained unharmed and was cared for by TransPennine Express staff before being returned safely to her owners the following day.

Conductor Will Saunders, who noticed the stowaway, said he saw Angel "confidently padding up and down the train".

After the one hour and 19-minute journey to Manchester Airport, Mr Saunders took it upon himself to ensure Angel returned home. He contacted the number on her collar and drove her back to Stockport, giving her owners great relief.

He added: "As a cat lover myself, I couldn't leave her to fend for herself. She was so calm and confident on the train - it was like she'd done it before. I'm just glad we could keep her safe and get her back home. She's clearly a much-loved cat."
