Part of a west London Underground station is set to close soon as Transport for London carries out what it has described as extensive repair work to the station’s roof.

Barons Court station, which is served by both the District and Piccadilly lines, will see platforms closed in phases to allow the work to be completed safely. The eastbound platform will shut from 19 January until early June, followed by the westbound platform from mid-July through to the end of the year.

TfL said the station’s age is a key factor behind the disruption. Opened in 1904, several of its core structural elements are believed to be approaching the end of their usable life. The transport authority has apologised to passengers for the inconvenience the closures will cause.

Alternative travel arrangements have been put in place while the work is carried out. District line passengers are being advised to use West Kensington, while those travelling on the Piccadilly line are recommended to change trains at Earl’s Court or Hammersmith.

Both platforms are expected to reopen temporarily in time for the Queen’s Club tennis tournament, which begins on 6 June. However, TfL has warned that services at Barons Court will still be affected by a separate, planned track closure over the weekend of 13 and 14 June.

Richard Jones, director of asset performance delivery at TfL, said:

"This is the safest and quickest way to remove and replace the platform roof, which includes around 800 panes of glass. We have been carrying out essential restoration and maintenance work at the station since February 2025. During this time, it became clear that the station requires more extensive repairs, which can only be safely undertaken by temporarily closing each platform one at a time."
