‘Festive Fiver’ ticket unveiled for West Midlands evening travel
West Midlands Railway has launched a new “Festive Fiver” ticket, giving evening travellers the chance to enjoy discounted return journeys across the region in the run-up to Christmas.
The £5 return fare is available for travel after 4pm between any two stations within zones 1 to 5 of the West Midlands rail network. The offer, which runs until 23 December, covers popular destinations including Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry and Stourbridge. It is aimed at encouraging people to make the most of seasonal events, from Christmas markets and late-night shopping to social gatherings and family visits.
Young travellers can save even more, with 16-17 Saver Railcard holders and children aged 5 to 15 able to claim a further 50% discount on the already-reduced fare.
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at West Midlands Railway, said: “Christmas is fast approaching, and we want to make sure our customers across the West Midlands can enjoy all the fantastic festive events happening in the region. With this ticket, passengers know they won’t be paying more than £5 when travelling within zones 1 – 5 after 4pm, making it simple to plan your evenings out. I also want to remind passengers that trains are expected to be busier than usual over the festive period, so please make sure to check your journey before you travel and be kind to staff and your fellow passengers.”
The promotion forms part of the operator’s seasonal push to boost travel into town and city centres during a traditionally busy time for the region’s network.
