Industrial action by train drivers at Hull Trains has come to an end following months of disruption linked to the dismissal of a colleague. The walkouts, which began in March 2025, were organised by the drivers’ union Aslef after it alleged that one of its members had been unfairly sacked.

The dispute centred on claims made by Aslef in January 2025 that a driver had lost his job after raising concerns about fatigue during a company briefing. The union argued the dismissal was connected to those safety concerns, prompting strike action by its members.

Hull Trains has repeatedly rejected the allegation of unfair dismissal. Throughout the dispute, the operator maintained that its actions were appropriate and conducted in line with established procedures. It said that any future disciplinary matters would continue to be handled within the framework of the existing jointly agreed machinery and disciplinary process.

Both Hull Trains and Aslef have now confirmed that an agreement has been reached to end the industrial action, bringing the protracted dispute to a close.

A spokesperson for the train company said:

"We are pleased that our customers can continue to travel with confidence when booking with Hull Trains, following the positive outcome of our talks with Aslef. The safety of our customers and colleagues has and always will continue to be our number one priority."
