The ‘Inspiration’ train is set to make a stop in Aberdeen this October, offering railway enthusiasts, families, and history buffs a unique opportunity to explore Scotland’s rich railway heritage. The train, touring the country, provides an interactive exhibition highlighting the historical, social, and technological impact of rail over the past 200 years. Visitors can expect a lively mix of entertainment, informative activities, and special exhibitions throughout its stay.

The train comprises four decorated carriages, each dedicated to a different theme. These include the development of the railway from its beginnings to modern times, a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and engineering, a showcase of ten different career types including drones, freight, and meteorology, and an exploration of Scotland’s railway history. The train arrived in Scotland via the East Coast Main Line and will remain at Aberdeen station to welcome visitors for two days.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “Like so many people, I’ve been fascinated by the railway since I was a child. One of my earliest memories was travelling by train up to Aviemore, gliding through the rolling hills of Drumochter, and seeing the most incredible scenery and wildlife. From that point I was hooked. The ‘Inspiration’ train is a great way to illustrate the massive impact the modern railway has had on Britain and the rest of the world. I encourage everyone to come along to experience a slice of Britain’s rich railway heritage, take a glimpse into its future, and be inspired.”

‘Inspiration’ arrives at Aberdeen station at 08:30 on Sunday, 19 October, with the exhibition opening to the public at 10:00. The train will depart at 18:00 on Monday, 20 October, giving visitors nearly two full days to enjoy the interactive displays, performances, and activities designed to engage people of all ages in the history and future of the railway.
