LNER will once again back London’s Chinese New Year celebrations in 2026, marking a second year of partnership as the capital prepares to welcome the Year of the Horse.

In the lead-up to the main festivities, the operator’s own ceremonial lions have been performing at London King’s Cross station, entertaining passengers and staff ahead of what is expected to be a busy weekend in the city. Hundreds of thousands of people are anticipated to attend events across the capital.

The centrepiece parade, sponsored by LNER, will take place on Sunday 22 February 2026. Winding its way through Chinatown and into Trafalgar Square, it is regarded as one of the highlights of the 15-day Spring Festival, which began earlier this week. As part of the celebrations, LNER’s lions will participate in the traditional ‘dotting of the eye ceremony’, symbolising their awakening ahead of the parade.

David Flesher, Commercial Director at LNER, said:

"At LNER, we are proud to welcome thousands of visitors from China onboard our services each year, allowing them the freedom to enjoy the very best experiences both on our trains, and in the many wonderful towns and cities along our route. We connect visitors to some of the UK’s biggest destinations. From the iconic capital of London, and the historic Viking city of York, to the cathedral city of Durham, stunning Northumberland coastline – and the real-life Hogwarts at Alnwick Castle, as well as the spectacular Scottish Highlands. It is an honour to once again be sponsoring and taking part in these special celebrations."

Mr. Chu Ting Tang OBE, Chaiman at London Chinatown Chinese Association, said:

"Chinese New Year is the highlight of our cultural calendar, and we are delighted to once again partner with LNER to bring the celebrations to life for both communities across London and visitors from further afield. Their support helps us showcase the richness of Chinese heritage and will help make sure this year’s festivities are our most vibrant and welcoming yet."
