Merseyrail Confirms Christmas and New Year Timetable Changes
Merseyrail has confirmed its festive timetable, with services operating on all days except Christmas Day and early finishes planned for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The operator has also announced the return of its Boxing Day services, aimed at supporting leisure travel, shopping trips, and visits to family and friends over the holiday period.
On Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December, trains across the Merseyrail network will run as normal during the day before finishing earlier than usual. The final services are expected to depart at around 8.30pm.
No Merseyrail trains will operate on Christmas Day, Thursday 25 December, in line with longstanding tradition across the network.
Services will resume on Boxing Day, Friday 26 December, with a special timetable in place. Trains will run every 30 minutes from approximately 9.30am until 7pm, calling at selected stations on each line. Extra services will also operate between Liverpool and Aintree to accommodate passengers travelling to the Boxing Day race meeting at Aintree Racecourse.
On New Year’s Eve, Wednesday 31 December, trains will again finish earlier than usual, with the last services leaving at around 8.30pm. Normal operations will resume on New Year’s Day, Thursday 1 January, when a 30-minute Sunday service will run across all lines on the network.
