A fatal incident involving a train has been reported near Morley, prompting a significant emergency response during the morning peak.

Emergency services were called to the area close to Morley Station at around 9.30am after a Manchester Victoria to Hull service was brought to a stand. The train involved was the 09:31 departure, headcode 1K13, which stopped near the station following the incident.

It was later confirmed that a person had been struck by a train and was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been disclosed.

Witnesses reported seeing a large number of emergency responders at the location, including a fire engine and at least three ambulances. Several crews were observed working on and around the railway tracks as the response continued.

British Transport Police issued a brief statement confirming the fatality. A short statement from British Transport Police reads:

"Emergency services are responding to a fatal incident near Morley station. A person has been hit by a train. The 0931 Manchester Victoria to Hull service (1K13) came to a halt close to Morley station."

Rail services through the area were suspended immediately after the incident, but lines have since reopened. Trains are now running again following the conclusion of emergency work at the scene.

A spokesperson for National Rail said:

"The emergency services have completed their work following an earlier incident between Leeds and Huddersfield / Brighouse."
