Railway Stalker Who Terrorised Women Faces Justice at Old Bailey
A serial offender who targeted women across London’s rail network over several months has been jailed following an extensive investigation by British Transport Police.
Craig Anthony Anderson, 38, of no fixed address, was sentenced to one year and 10 months’ imprisonment at The Old Bailey on 23 March. He had been convicted in January of four counts of sexual assault and one count of stalking. The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting his ability to approach lone women, alongside two restraining orders.
The court heard how Anderson carried out a sustained series of offences between June and October 2025, deliberately targeting women travelling alone at stations and on trains across London and surrounding areas.
One of the earliest incidents took place on 14 June at Bank Underground Station, where Anderson followed a young woman up a staircase before subjecting her to unwanted advances and sexually assaulting her. As he left, he mocked the victim, laughing and sticking out his tongue.
Days later, on 26 June, he approached another woman on a train at Guildford railway station, initiating contact that quickly escalated into persistent harassment. When she refused to meet him, the situation intensified. On 15 July, he followed her from Epsom railway station onto a train towards Victoria, verbally abusing her and attempting to take her belongings. The victim was forced to hide in toilets at Canary Wharf station to escape him, while he continued sending her sexual messages until his arrest.
Further assaults followed in quick succession. On 2 August, a woman was targeted outside Liverpool Street station after refusing his advances, before being assaulted as he left the area. Later that month, on 29 August, another woman was approached at Westminster Underground station and assaulted on an escalator after being asked for directions.
The pattern continued into October. On 6 October at Purley railway station, Anderson engaged a woman in conversation before sitting beside her on a train. After she rejected his advances, he sexually assaulted her and attempted to block her from leaving. She managed to escape and left the train at Redhill railway station.
Officers identified Anderson through CCTV images, and multiple victims later confirmed his identity during formal identification procedures. He was arrested during an in-person interview at the Passport Office, where he claimed he intended to leave the UK within weeks. While under caution, he made derogatory remarks about his victims and denied being present at the locations, despite clear footage linking him to the offences.
Detective Constable Libby Wildego said:
“Anderson is a dangerous predator who preyed on women for his own sexual gratification. Just as he did throughout the assaults themselves, when we questioned him under caution he smirked throughout and offered no comment, highlighting the sheer lack of remorse for his actions. It is thanks to the brave victims who came forward and supported our investigation that we have seen Anderson sentenced for his horrific crimes. Despite his own behaviour in court where he voluntarily left before he received his sentence, I hope this result provides some sense of comfort for the victims. If you experience or witness a sexual offence on a train or at a station, please report it to us by texting 61016. We take every report we receive seriously and will stop at nothing to bring sexual offenders like Anderson to justice."
