ScotRail Warns of No Trains on Key Route During Fife Electrification Works
Train services will be suspended between Haymarket and Dalmeny for just over a week as major engineering works take place to upgrade the route. No trains will run on this section from Saturday, 17 January through to Sunday, 25 January, while teams carry out continuous, round-the-clock work.
During the closure, ScotRail will put alternative arrangements in place to minimise disruption. Where possible, trains will be diverted, while rail replacement bus services will operate to serve affected local stations. Passengers will also be able to make use of other public transport options during the works.
Customers are being advised to prepare in advance of travelling, check their journeys before setting off and allow extra time, as some routes will take longer than usual. ScotRail has published a route-by-route breakdown of the changes on its website to help passengers understand how their journeys may be affected.
The engineering programme in Fife forms part of the Scottish Government’s wider effort to decarbonise Scotland’s Railway. The long-term aim of the project is to deliver cleaner, quieter and more reliable services across the network.
Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said:
“Network Rail’s upcoming work is a vital stage in the Fife electrification project, paving the way for long-term improvements that will benefit customers for years to come. We’ve put alternative travel plans in place to help keep people moving, and we encourage customers to take a moment to check their options before travelling. Some journeys may take longer than usual, so planning ahead will make things easier. Our website and the ScotRail app have the latest information, and we’ll continue to provide clear updates and support throughout the works. We appreciate everyone’s patience as these essential upgrades are delivered.”
