Swan Causes Major Disruption at Glasgow Central Station
A swan on the tracks at Glasgow Central Station caused significant disruption to train services, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded during the morning rush hour. ScotRail cancelled or delayed at least 30 services, while Transpennine Express and Avanti West Coast trains were also affected.
Network Rail Scotland said a response team was quickly dispatched to ensure the bird was removed safely. The swan was seen walking along the high-level tracks, creating a hazardous situation that halted train movements.
ScotRail warned passengers that the disruption would continue to have a knock-on effect on services until 8pm. Staff worked to manage delays and provide information to travellers while the situation was resolved.
A ScotRail spokesperson confirmed: “Good news, the swan has been moved and is now safely away from the railway. It's a little distressed, but recovering well. Thank you for your patience, we really do appreciate it.”
The incident highlights the unexpected challenges that can arise on busy railway networks, as well as the efforts of staff to ensure both passenger safety and animal welfare.
