Vehicle hits bridge in Cwmbran, halting trains between Newport and Hereford

Train services are facing significant disruption after a vehicle struck a bridge in the Cwmbran area. Transport for Wales (TfW) confirmed the collision has blocked all lines between Newport and Hereford, leaving trains unable to operate until repairs are completed.

TfW has advised passengers that urgent repairs are underway and that any services running through the affected stations are being cancelled. The disruption is expected to continue until 1pm on November 9.

On its website, TfW said:

"Due to urgent repairs to a bridge between Newport South Wales and Hereford all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations will be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 1pm, November 9. Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge in the Cwmbran area, no trains can run between Newport and Hereford until repairs are made. An emergency road transport order has been submitted please check back for details on this. We apologise for any disruption to your journey."

Passengers are being urged to plan their journeys carefully and check for updates as repair work continues.

All lines have since reopened.
