Wolfpack was developed by the Swedish indie studio Usurpator AB, originally known as Skvader Studios. It was released in 2019 as an Early Access title for PC. The publisher of the game is SUBSIM, a well-known community site for submarine simulation enthusiasts that partnered with Usurpator to bring the project to life. Wolfpack remains a PC-exclusive title available through Steam, with no official console or other platform releases confirmed to date.

The game places players inside a meticulously recreated German Type VII U-boat from the Second World War. It can be played solo or cooperatively with up to five players working together on the same submarine, each controlling different stations such as captain, helmsman, dive officer, radio operator, and navigator. Every control is fully interactive, from valves and periscopes to hydrophones and the Enigma machine. Missions involve tracking and attacking Allied convoys using torpedoes and deck guns, then evading destroyers using authentic submarine tactics. The focus is on teamwork, communication, and simulation realism rather than fast-paced action.

Promotion for Wolfpack leaned heavily on its authenticity and community roots. The developers built anticipation through the SUBSIM network, where early builds and updates were shared with enthusiasts. They also emphasised the historical accuracy of the project, drawing attention to their research trips to real Type VII submarines in Germany and showcasing their attention to detail in developer updates. Promotion encouraged online crews to form and play together, reinforcing the cooperative nature of the game. As an Early Access title, much of its visibility came from word-of-mouth, streaming content, and community engagement rather than traditional marketing.

Reception to Wolfpack has been highly positive among its target audience. Steam users have consistently rated the game “Very Positive,” with praise focused on its realism, cooperative gameplay, and deep immersion. Critics and players have described it as one of the most authentic submarine simulations ever made, appealing especially to fans of detailed historical sims. While its complexity and steep learning curve limit its appeal to casual players, it has earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts of naval and World War II simulation games.
