Jurassic World Evolution was developed by Frontier Developments and first released in 2018. The game places players in charge of building and managing their own Jurassic park across the islands of the Muertes archipelago, tasking them with balancing scientific research, guest entertainment and facility security while dealing with dynamic threats such as breakouts, espionage and tropical storms.

Frontier Developments also published the game, leveraging the official Jurassic World licence from Universal to position the title within the film franchise and use recognizable IP, characters and thematic elements to broaden its appeal. The initial launch emphasized cinematic presentation and franchise authenticity alongside the studio’s pedigree in management simulators.

After the PC debut, Jurassic World Evolution was ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later in 2018, and a Nintendo Switch Complete Edition followed in 2020; the franchise was expanded with multiple paid DLC packs that added new dinosaur species and gameplay features, and ultimately led to a full sequel, Jurassic World Evolution 2, released in 2021. These ports and add-ons extended the game’s lifespan and made the core park‑management experience accessible to a wider console audience.

The game’s design blends deep management systems with hands‑on dinosaur creation and park design, allowing players to bioengineer dinosaurs with varied behaviors and traits, sculpt enclosures and guest facilities, and orchestrate research and security operations. Players can manage staff, construct attractions and containment measures, and respond to emergent events, while the DNA and genome editing systems let players influence dinosaur appearance and temperament to suit different park strategies.

Promotion for Jurassic World Evolution leaned heavily on its film licence and cinematic trailers that showcased both spectacle and systems, with launch marketing highlighting the ability to create iconic dinosaurs and dramatic park moments. Critical reception was mixed to positive: reviewers praised the visuals, dinosaur AI and satisfying core management loop while noting limitations in mission variety and some micromanagement issues. Player reception was stronger over time, bolstered by Frontier’s ongoing DLC support and community engagement, resulting in solid commercial performance and enough popularity to justify continued investment and a sequel.
