The game places the player in command of a racing team rather than the driver’s seat, asking users to hire drivers and staff, design and develop cars, manage budgets and expand facilities. Core systems include a car development tree, R&D allocation, factory upgrades, driver training, and tactical decisions during practice, qualifying and races, with real-time race viewing where tyre choices, pit timing and instructions determine outcomes.

Motorsport Manager was promoted using trailers, screenshots and developer communications that emphasised its depth of systems, emergent drama between drivers and personnel, and the strategic tension of race weekends. Marketing targeted fans of simulation and management games by positioning the title as a detailed, decision-driven motorsport experience rather than an arcade racer.
