Birmingham New Street Sexual Assault: Witnesses Urged To Come Forward

British Transport Police detectives are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted at Birmingham New Street station.

The incident happened at around 1pm on Sunday 17 May inside the Wasabi restaurant at the station.

Police said the woman had entered the restaurant when she was approached by a man, who blocked her path and tried to speak to her.

During the encounter, the woman was sexually assaulted.

Several customers who saw what happened challenged the man, according to British Transport Police.

Officers arrested a man at the scene on suspicion of sexual assault. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detectives are now asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and help with the investigation.

The man is described as white, with a tanned complexion, aged around 30, with a buzzcut and light-coloured eyes. He was wearing black clothing and a black bomber jacket at the time.
