The incident is affecting services operating between London Paddington railway station and destinations including Oxford, Bristol Temple Meads railway station, Weston-super-Mare and Taunton.

Train services running through the affected section may be cancelled, delayed or altered while crews work to clear the obstruction and safely reopen the route. Disruption is currently expected to continue until around 14:00.

GWR posted on X a short time ago stating:

Due to a tree blocking the railway between Swindon and Chippenham the line towards Bath Spa is blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 13:45.

Services are likely to divert directly to Bristol Parkway. If you need to get to Bath Spa and Chippenham, please take train to Bristol Temple Meads and then back on the London services accordingly.

Passengers whose trains are cancelled are being advised they can use tickets on either of the two services before or after their booked train at no additional charge, including on peak-time services where ticket restrictions would normally apply.

Rail operators are urging customers to check journey information before travelling as further alterations to services remain possible while the incident is dealt with.
