Rail Operator Issues Warning as Thousands Head to Wembley From Hull
Hull Trains has warned passengers travelling to Wembley for two major sporting finals later this month that services are already fully sold out, with some supporters likely to stand for all or part of their journeys.
The operator says additional capacity has been added wherever possible across its five-train fleet to help transport fans heading to the Championship Play-Off Final on 23 May and the Challenge Cup Final on 30 May. Extra non-stop services will also run between Hull and London King’s Cross on both dates.
Supporters of Hull City A.F.C. travelling to Wembley on 23 May have been advised that demand is exceptionally high following confirmation of the later 16:30 kick-off time. Hull Trains said some passengers had originally booked onto the 19:03 departure from London expecting an earlier match start, but tickets for that service will now be accepted on later trains due to the revised schedule.
Despite the additional arrangements, all Hull Trains services for 23 May are now sold out. The operator says only limited unreserved seating remains available in Coach A, with customers strongly encouraged to travel on Friday 22 May and return on Sunday 24 May where possible to avoid the busiest periods.
For Hull City supporters, a special non-stop southbound service will depart Hull at 07:34 and arrive at London King's Cross railway station at 09:50. The return non-stop service will leave London at 20:15, arriving back in Hull at 22:43.
A similar picture is expected a week later for fans of Hull Kingston Rovers travelling to the Challenge Cup Final on 30 May. Hull Trains confirmed all services on that day have also sold out, with customers again warned they may need to stand for sections of the journey if travelling without a reserved seat.
For the rugby league final, the dedicated southbound service will depart Hull at 07:15 before arriving at King’s Cross at 09:39. The return service is due to leave London at 20:12, arriving back in Hull at 22:43.
Passengers holding reserved tickets have also been reminded that their bookings are only valid on the specific service shown on their ticket. Hull Trains is urging all travellers to arrive at stations well in advance due to the expected crowds and pressure on services.
