GWR Adds 5,000 Extra Seats For Weston-Super-Mare Summer Fest Crowds
Great Western Railway will add more than 5,000 extra seats this weekend as music fans head to Summer Fest at the Beach in Weston-super-Mare.
The operator is putting on additional trains and strengthening existing services across Friday, Saturday and Sunday to help passengers travel to and from the event.
Festival-goers are being urged to plan ahead, with services expected to be busy throughout the weekend.
On Friday, GWR will run an extra nine-car train from Weston-super-Mare towards Bristol after the opening night, adding 650 seats for passengers heading home.
The biggest uplift will come on Saturday night, when five additional services will operate, providing 2,525 extra seats.
On Sunday, three further nine-car trains are planned, adding another 1,950 seats for passengers travelling back after the event.
Last trains of the day are shown in the image below:
GWR said the extra capacity is intended to give people a easier alternative to driving and parking during the festival weekend, while helping manage demand at Weston-super-Mare station.
GWR Station Manager for Weston-super-Mare, Adam Hopkins, said:
"Summer Fest at the Beach is a fantastic event and we want to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy it without the stress of driving or finding parking. We've worked hard to put on a significant number of extra seats across the whole weekend, but services will be busy and we'd strongly encourage everyone to check their journey and, where possible, book in advance. Our teams will be on hand at stations throughout the weekend to help.”
