Police have issued images as part of an investigation into a racially aggravated incident involving an off-duty British Transport Police officer at Birmingham New Street station in December.

The incident took place on Sunday 7 December at around 9pm. The officer, who was off duty and travelling to work, was on the station concourse when they overheard a disagreement between a commuter and a member of railway staff.

After approaching to speak with those involved, the officer was subjected to racial abuse from the commuter. No injuries were reported, but the incident was later referred to British Transport Police.

Investigating officers say the man shown in the released images may have information that could assist enquiries and are urging anyone who recognises him to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 590 of 7 December. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
