Knife Injuries After Violent Clash at Egham Railway Station
British Transport Police have launched an investigation after a violent incident at Egham railway station left several people injured on Friday evening.
Officers were called to the Surrey station at around 9pm on Friday 6 February following reports that a number of people had suffered knife injuries during a fight. Emergency services attended alongside colleagues from Surrey Police, with paramedics treating the injured at the scene.
Police confirmed that four people were hurt in the incident. Two men aged 20 sustained stab injuries, while a 22-year-old man suffered a slash wound to his face. An 18-year-old was also assaulted. All four were taken to hospital, but none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A man believed to be in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody. Investigators believe at least two other individuals left the area before officers arrived and enquiries are continuing to trace them.
Detectives say the incident is being treated as isolated and involved two groups of people who were not known to each other. A cordon remains in place at the station while officers work to establish the full circumstances, with efforts ongoing to limit disruption to the railway.
BTP Detective Superintendent David Udomhiaye said:
“We’re aware of concerns from the local community and, while this is of course an incredibly serious incident, I can confirm that thankfully no one has been fatally injured. This is being treated as an isolated incident at the station involving two groups of people who we believe were not known to each other. Officers have been working with partners overnight to establish what happened. A cordon is still in place and we’re grateful for local people’s patience and understanding while this important work is completed. We’re working with Network Rail partners to try to keep disruption to a minimum. Finally, I’d urge anyone who has information who can help us to come forward. There will be witnesses who have yet to speak to us, and I’d urge anyone in the area who might have dash or doorbell camera footage to make contact as quickly as possible. There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days and anyone with concerns or information can speak to those officers, or text us on 61016.”
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 682 of 6 February. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
