Limehouse Platform Closure To Hit Essex-Bound c2c Passengers This Summer
Passengers using Limehouse station are being warned to plan ahead as a programme of essential platform renewal works gets under way this summer.
The work will take place between June and November and will involve renewing sections of both platforms at the c2c station.
The first phase is scheduled to run from Monday 22 June until Monday 6 July. During this period, the Essex-bound platform, Platform 2, will remain closed throughout.
c2c is advising customers travelling from London towards Essex to use alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys while the platform is out of use.
During the closure, there will be no station entrance or exit access for Essex-bound services from Platform 2 at Limehouse. Passengers arriving from London will also be unable to interchange with the Docklands Light Railway at Limehouse from those services.
Customers travelling from Limehouse towards Essex can either:
• take a London-bound service from platform 1 and change at Fenchurch Street for onward c2c services; or
• use TfL services and connect with c2c at West Ham station.
Passengers wanting to change between c2c and the DLR at Limehouse are advised to travel via West Ham for TfL services. Tower Gateway and Bank can also be used to connect with the DLR, although c2c has warned that additional charges may apply if passengers use those stations to start or complete journeys while Platform 2 at Limehouse is closed.
Passengers who require assistance are being advised to contact c2c before travelling so staff can be available if needed. During the works, some passengers may need to travel one stop in the opposite direction to access train services because of the platform closure.
The project will see the existing timber platforms replaced with a modern Glass Reinforced Plastic composite decking system, designed to improve the durability and resilience of the station infrastructure.
The work will also include upgrades to the platform lighting and an extension of Platform 1 by around 28 metres, which c2c says will provide extra capacity and create a safer, more comfortable waiting area for passengers.
c2c’s Asset & Property Director, Donna Thorpe, said:
“Over the coming months, we will be working with our partners at Aureos to fully replace the existing timber platform decking on platforms 1 and 2 at Limehouse station. These works include the extension of Platform 1 by approximately 28 metres, providing additional capacity and creating a safer and more comfortable waiting environment for customers. In addition to the platform re-decking works, we will also be renewing and upgrading the existing platform lighting. We fully appreciate the inconvenience that these phased platform closures may cause some customers over the coming months, and we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding while these essential improvement works are carried out. We are working closely with our partners to minimise disruption wherever possible, and to ensure suitable alternative travel arrangements are available throughout the programme of works.”
