Major disruption between Manchester and Sheffield as engineering works overrun
All lines between Chinley and Sheffield have now reopened following to overrunning engineering work, which caused widespread cancellations and revised services across the network.
Trains may still be cancelled or altered to start or terminate at Manchester Piccadilly or New Mills Central while service recovery continues. Services are expected to remain affected until at least 18:00.
East Midlands Railway have advised that from 14.00 trains will be able to run between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street. In the other direction, services between Liverpool Lime street and Sheffield will not start until 17:50, due to rolling stock and personnel being out of place.
Northern Rail has confirmed that ticket restrictions, including Advance and Peak fares, have been temporarily lifted in the affected areas. Normal restrictions will return once services resume. Rail replacement buses are in operation between New Mills Central and Sheffield.
TransPennine Express has also provided replacement buses running non-stop between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield, free of charge to passengers. Journey times may be longer while travelling by road.
Customers are advised to check with their operator for the latest travel arrangements, as ticket acceptance and alternative routes may change at short notice.
