Major Rail Disruption at Crewe After Signalling System Fails

A signalling fault at Crewe is causing major disruption this evening, with some lines through the station blocked.

Trains running to, from and through Crewe may be cancelled, revised or severely delayed by up to 60 minutes while the fault is dealt with.

The issue is also affecting services between Crewe and Stafford, with Avanti West Coast warning passengers that trains through the area may be cancelled or delayed.

Avanti West Coast posted on X:

"Due to a fault with the signalling system between Crewe and Stafford, some lines are blocked. Trains running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed."

Rail replacement buses are operating between Crewe and Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent to help keep passengers moving.

Major disruption is expected to continue until at least 19:00.
