Police release CCTV image after sexual assault on Hartlepool-bound train
Detectives have released a CCTV image as part of an investigation into a sexual assault on a train in the North East, appealing for the public’s help to identify a man they believe could assist with enquiries.
The incident took place at around 9.45pm on Friday 3 April on a service travelling from Billingham railway station to Hartlepool railway station. Officers say the man boarded the train at Middlesbrough railway station.
According to police, the man initially sat opposite the woman before moving to sit beside her, where he then sexually assaulted her. He later left the train at Hartlepool.
The appeal has been issued by the British Transport Police, with detectives stating the individual shown in the image may have information that could help progress the investigation.
Anyone who recognises the man is urged to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 861 of 3 April.
