Rail Replacement Buses as Metropolitan Line Upgrades Disrupt Chiltern
Chiltern Railways passengers are being urged to plan ahead as engineering work on the London Underground network is set to disrupt services later this month.
Signalling upgrades on the Metropolitan Line mean that from Thursday 19 February to Sunday 22 February inclusive, no Chiltern Railways trains will run between London Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham. The four-day closure will affect all services on that stretch of the route.
To keep passengers moving, rail replacement buses will operate throughout the disruption. These services will link Beaconsfield with Amersham, Great Missenden, Wendover, Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury and Aylesbury Vale Parkway, connecting with trains to and from London Marylebone at Beaconsfield:
Beaconsfield - Amersham - Great Missenden - Wendover - Stoke Mandeville - Aylesbury - Aylesbury Vale Parkway
Transport for London will also run replacement buses between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham, calling at Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and Chalfont & Latimer among other stations. However, roadworks in the Chorleywood and Rickmansworth areas are expected to add significant delays, and longer journeys will require passengers to change buses at Rickmansworth.
Chiltern Railways is advising customers using replacement buses along the closed section to purchase paper tickets. Time restrictions on some fares could be exceeded due to extended bus journey times. Those travelling directly between Aylesbury and London Marylebone are being encouraged to use services via Princes Risborough instead.
Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said:
“I recognise that this closure will significantly inconvenience our customers travelling in the area and I would like to thank them for their patience as the signalling works are carried out. The work is crucial to ensure the future reliability of journeys. If you are travelling between London Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham, please check your journey ahead of setting out as it will be heavily disrupted for four days from Thursday 19 February.”
