Rail Services Now Recovering After Person Hit by Train Near Northallerton

Rail lines near Northallerton railway station have reopened following an earlier incident in which a person was struck by a train, but major disruption continues across parts of the East Coast Main Line as services recover.

LNER confirmed the sad news earlier on X:

All lines are currently blocked at #Northallerton due to a person being hit by a train. Disruption is expected until 17.00, please check your journey before you travel

Emergency services have now completed their work at the scene and trains are moving again through the affected area. However, passengers are still being warned that services may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised while operators work to restore normal timetables.

Disruption is expected to continue until around 20:00 and is affecting multiple long-distance operators across northern England and Scotland.

Services impacted include CrossCountry routes between Plymouth, Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff Central and Edinburgh, as well as services between Plymouth and Aberdeen and between Reading and Newcastle.

Grand Central services between London King's Cross railway station and Sunderland are also affected, alongside routes operated by London North Eastern Railway between London and Newcastle or Edinburgh.

Lumo services linking London with Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street continue to face disruption, while TransPennine Express trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle, as well as Manchester Airport and Redcar Central, are also being impacted.

Rail operators say some ticket acceptance arrangements remain available across alternative operators and routes, although passengers are being warned these arrangements could change or be withdrawn at short notice as the network recovers.

Passengers are advised to continue checking live travel updates before setting out due to the likelihood of ongoing delays and revised services throughout the evening.
