South Bermondsey station to stay closed on Monday as works overrun
South Bermondsey station will remain closed for an extra day after engineering works over the festive period overran, Network Rail has confirmed.
The station has been shut while platforms are rebuilt, but the work has taken longer than planned. As a result, South Bermondsey will stay closed throughout Monday, 5 January, with train operators now expecting the station to reopen on Tuesday, 6 January.
Although the station itself will be closed, railway lines through South Bermondsey will remain open. Trains will continue to pass through the area but will not be able to stop at the station until the work is completed.
Passengers travelling to or from South Bermondsey are being advised to use local London bus services instead. Bus routes 1, 21, 47, 381 and P12 all serve the area, with journeys able to be planned using the TfL journey planner.
Travellers are being warned to allow extra time, with journeys expected to take around 20 minutes longer than usual while the station remains closed.
