Tragedy in Shildon: Teenage Girl Dies After Railway Incident

British Transport Police have confirmed the death of a teenage girl following an incident on the railway in Shildon.

Emergency services were called at around 8am on Wednesday 22 April after reports of a casualty on the tracks in the area. Officers attended alongside paramedics, and the 14-year-old girl was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Police have now confirmed that she died in hospital on the evening of Saturday 2 May. She is not being named, in line with her family’s wishes.

Detectives have stated that the incident is not being treated as suspicious. Specially trained officers are continuing to support the girl’s family during this time.

In a statement, her family expressed their sincerest thanks to those who have reached out with messages of support, and have asked that their privacy be respected as they come to terms with their loss.
