Wirral man jailed after sexually assaulting teenager on Merseyside train
A man has been sent to prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young woman on a Merseyside train last summer.
Graham Wragg, 44, of Seaview Road in Liscard, was jailed for 12 months following a British Transport Police investigation. He was found guilty on Wednesday 4 February after a trial at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court.
Despite denying the offence and entering a not guilty plea, the court ordered Wragg to serve a year in custody and placed him on the sex offenders register for a decade.
Magistrates heard that the offence took place at around 8.30pm on Friday 1 August 2025, as an 18-year-old woman travelled on a service from Liverpool Lime Street to New Brighton. She had boarded the train at Birkenhead North with her partner and sat in a row of empty seats directly in front of Wragg.
The court was told that Wragg reached through the gap between the seat and the window to touch the teenager before sexually assaulting her. Distressed, the woman and her partner moved to another carriage to get away from him.
When the couple left the train at Wallasey Bridge railway station, Wragg followed them and began shouting. After safely returning home, the incident was reported to British Transport Police using the non-emergency number. Officers later identified Wragg and arrested him at his home address.
BTP Detective Sergeant Callum Lancaster said:
“This sentence reflects the courage of the young woman who came forward to report this incident. Wragg’s actions that day were completely unacceptable, and although he claimed he was simply reaching for a water bottle, we were able to prove otherwise and secure a conviction. I hope this outcome prompts him to reflect on his behaviour and serves as a reminder of how to conduct himself appropriately while travelling by train. If you experience or witness a sexual offence on a train or at a station, please report it by texting 61016. In an emergency, always call 999.”
