All Lines Closed Between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury After Train Derailment
Rail services between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury have been suspended following a low-speed derailment in the Bilbrook area.
All lines through the affected section are currently blocked, meaning trains are unable to run in either direction while the incident is dealt with. Services are being cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised as a result.
National Rail Enquiries confirmed the disruption with a post on X. They said:
A low speed derailment between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains will be cancelled, delayed or revised
West Midlands Railway have also posted the following on X:
Incident between Wolverhampton & Bilbrook. No service will run for the remainder of the day between Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton. Rail replacement & ticket acceptance on local buses will remain in place. More info to follow regarding service tomorrow.
The disruption is affecting a number of key routes, including:
Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Crewe / Edinburgh, and also between Birmingham New Street and Holyhead
CrossCountry between Reading / Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly
London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street
Transport for Wales between Birmingham International and Shrewsbury / Chester / Manchester Piccadilly / Aberstwyth, and also between Birmingham New Street and Holyhead
West Midlands Railway between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury
Given the low-speed nature of the derailment, there have been no reports of injuries among those involved.
West Midlands Railway have confirmed that rail replacement transport has been requested to run between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
Passengers are being advised to check before travelling, as services may not run as planned and disruption is expected across the network.
Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.
