Bolton To Preston Rail Disruption As Emergency Incident Close All Lines

Passengers travelling between Bolton and Preston are facing disruption while emergency services deal with an incident on the route.

All lines between the two stations are currently closed, meaning trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

This will affect services operated by Avanti West Coast*, TransPennine Express and Northern.

*This is because Avanti West Coast services are diverting via Bolton due to engineering works taking place between Warrington Bank Quay and Wigan North Western.

Passengers are being advised to check before travelling using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Northern has also confirmed that ticket acceptance is in place for affected customers.

Northern announced on X:

"Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident Northern customers can also travel on Transport for Greater Manchester services at no extra cost between Bolton and Preston."

Avanti advise that if your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

Disruption is currently expected to continue until 4.30pm.
