Diesel Power And 80s Nostalgia Take Over Llangollen This Weekend
Llangollen and Corwen Railway will swap steam-era nostalgia for diesel power and 1980s colour this weekend as it hosts its Diesel and 80s Weekend on 30 and 31 May.
The two-day event will feature a showcase of the railway’s diesel locomotives, with an intensive timetable planned across the weekend. Trains will run throughout the day, giving visitors the chance to travel along the line, hop on and off services, and take in the different activity at stations.
The weekend is also being given a full 1980s theme, with fancy dress encouraged for visitors who want to dig out the leg warmers, leather jackets, big hair and neon. Organisers are also planning a large 80s party night as part of the event.
The theme will continue away from the trains, with an 80s-style menu available and entertainment and activities planned at stations across the railway. The event is being billed as a chance to combine heritage diesel traction with the sights, sounds and atmosphere of the decade.
Tickets include unlimited travel on all services, allowing passengers to make a full day of the gala-style timetable. Adult tickets are priced at £36 for one day or £65 for two days, while children can travel for £6 for one day or £10 for both days. Dogs can also attend for £3.
What’s included:
• An intensive gala timetable with frequent services
• A wide range of engine and stock movements across the line
• A lively atmosphere at stations throughout the railway
• Great opportunities for photography and observation
• A full day of heritage railway action to enjoy at your own pace
With frequent trains, diesel traction, themed food, station entertainment and a strong dose of 1980s nostalgia, the Llangollen and Corwen Railway event is set to offer a busy weekend for both railway enthusiasts and families looking for something different.
