Doncaster Train Theft: £6,000 Bike Stolen as Police Hunt Hooded Suspect

British Transport Police have issued an appeal after a high-value bicycle was stolen during a train journey in South Yorkshire, releasing images of a man they want to identify.

The incident unfolded at around 5pm on Thursday 26 March, when a 16-year-old boarded a service at Doncaster station with a black Scott Ransom bike valued at £6,000. The teenager placed the bicycle in the vestibule area before taking a seat nearby.

During the journey, a man was seen approaching the vestibule and showing a keen interest in the bike. He appeared to scan the carriage for its owner and was observed taking photographs of it.

As the train continued, the man pulled up his hood. When the service arrived at Kirk Sandall station, he removed the bicycle from the train and left the platform with it.

The theft was only discovered shortly afterwards, leaving the young owner distraught at the loss.

Officers investigating the incident believe the individual captured in the released images may have information that could assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who recognises him is urged to text British Transport Police on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 2600039380. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
