Emergency Incident Shuts Tamworth Station as Trains Halted on Both Lines
Emergency services have been called to an incident close to Tamworth railway station, forcing the temporary closure of the station and halting trains from calling at the platforms while work continues at the scene. This is now confirmed to be in relation to a murder investigation, more information can be found by clicking here.
The disruption is affecting services at both the High Level and Low Level platforms. With emergency crews currently in attendance near the station, trains are unable to stop at Tamworth and the station has been closed to passengers. Rail operators say disruption is expected to remain in place until at least 14:30.
Passengers travelling with London Northwestern Railway are being advised that their tickets will be accepted at no additional cost on rail replacement buses running between Nuneaton and Lichfield Trent Valley. The replacement services, operated by Stagecoach, are running in both directions. At Tamworth, passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Victoria Road.
Avanti West Coast has also confirmed that its customers can use London Northwestern Railway’s Stagecoach-operated replacement buses between Nuneaton and Lichfield Trent Valley without paying extra. The operator has also said that if a booked Avanti West Coast service is cancelled, passengers can instead travel on either of the two Avanti services immediately before their scheduled train or the two services immediately after.
CrossCountry passengers are also being given alternative travel options. Tickets will be accepted on West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway services between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley in both directions. Road transport has been requested to operate between Burton-on-Trent and Birmingham New Street, and any confirmed coach services will appear in online journey planners.
Passengers are being reminded that ticket acceptance and alternative travel arrangements may change at short notice. Travellers are being urged to check with their train operator before beginning their journey.
