Euston Passengers Warned as Strike Action and Engineering Work Threaten Delays

Passengers using London Northwestern Railway during the Spring bank holiday weekend are being warned to plan carefully, with strike action set to leave only a very limited service in operation.

The disruption will affect services on Friday 22 May and Saturday 23 May, when London Northwestern Railway will run a reduced timetable across its network. Passengers are being advised to only travel if necessary, with trains that do operate expected to be busy.

On Friday, no London Northwestern Railway trains will run after 7pm. On Saturday, services will start later than usual, with trains not beginning until 7am. The affected routes include Birmingham to Liverpool, along with services from Birmingham and Northampton to London Euston.

Avanti West Coast services are also expected to be very busy as passengers adjust their travel plans during the disruption.

Gary Walsh, West Coast South route director for Network Rail, said:

“Passengers should check their journeys before travelling this Spring bank holiday weekend, as strike action affecting London Northwestern Railway services will mean a very limited service on some routes. London Northwestern services that do run are expected to be very busy. We know this is a busy time for travel and we’re sorry for the disruption this will cause. If you do need to travel, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey."

Passengers are also being reminded that further disruption is planned around London Euston at the end of the month. On Saturday 30 May and Sunday 31 May, Network Rail teams will carry out key drainage improvement works near Milton Keynes, while HS2 construction work will take place outside Euston as part of preparations for Britain’s new high-speed railway.

That work will mean a reduced timetable, although Euston station will remain open and trains will continue to run.

The London Overground Lioness Line will also be closed over the same weekend while essential maintenance work is carried out. Passengers heading to Wembley Stadium on those dates are being urged to check their journeys before setting off.
