Greater Anglia Opens Driver Recruitment Drive Across Key UK Routes

Greater Anglia has launched a fresh recruitment drive for trainee train drivers, with applications now open across multiple locations on its network.

The operator is seeking candidates for two distinct roles: depot drivers and mainline drivers. Depot drivers are tasked with moving empty trains within depots and sidings, as well as positioning them into platforms at low speeds, while mainline drivers take responsibility for operating passenger services across a range of routes.

Vacancies for trainee depot drivers are currently available in Clacton, Colchester, Ilford, Norwich and Southend Victoria. Meanwhile, those looking to progress into driving passenger services can apply for trainee mainline positions based at Bishop’s Stortford, Cambridge, Ipswich and Liverpool Street.

Successful applicants for mainline roles will work services across key parts of the network, including West Anglia routes via Broxbourne and Harlow Town, alongside Great Eastern routes running through Shenfield and Colchester.

The roles are classed as safety-critical, meaning candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication skills. High levels of organisation and sustained concentration are also essential requirements for those entering the profession.

All positions come with shift-based working patterns, covering weekends, bank holidays and overnight duties on a rotating basis, reflecting the round-the-clock nature of railway operations.

Competition for these roles is expected to be intense. The recruitment process involves multiple stages, including assessments and psychometric testing, and can take a significant amount of time to complete.

Those who are successful will undergo extensive training provided by Greater Anglia. This includes classroom-based learning, simulator sessions and hands-on experience under the supervision of qualified instructors, designed to ensure trainees are fully prepared for operational duties.

If you feel like this may be the right job for you, then Greater Anglia would love to see your application.”
