Inquest opens into death of 17-year-old found at North Wales station
An inquest has been opened into the death of a teenager whose body was found at a railway station in North Wales.
Thomas Kailin Anthony Milne, a 17-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Llys Curig in Oakenholt, Flintshire, died at Shotton train station last Wednesday. The opening hearing was held in Ruthin.
The inquest heard that Mr Milne had been seen on the railway tracks by a train driver as the service approached the station. Senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, John Gittins, told the court that the death was reported to him by British Transport Police at 6.12pm that evening.
According to the coroner, the driver spotted a person on the tracks around 30 yards from the platform. Despite applying the brakes and sounding the train’s horn, the driver was unable to stop in time to prevent a collision. Mr Milne was pronounced dead at the scene.
The hearing was told that a post-mortem examination was carried out by pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson, who recorded a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.
Mr Gittins said British Transport Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The inquest was adjourned to be resumed at a later date.
