Jubilee Line Sexual Assault: Man Jailed After Predatory Late-Night Attack
A man who sexually assaulted a woman on a late-night Jubilee Line service has been jailed for more than four years following a British Transport Police investigation. The attack took place as the victim was travelling home alone, with police later describing the incident as predatory in nature.
Stanislaw Pozniecki, 49, of Billet Road, Walthamstow, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 29 January to four years and nine months in prison. He was also made subject to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to pay a victim surcharge after changing his plea to guilty on a single count of assault by penetration, having previously denied the charge.
The court heard that the offence occurred at about 11.45pm on Sunday 2 January 2022 aboard a southbound Jubilee Line train. Pozniecki targeted a lone 25-year-old woman who had fallen asleep during the journey, first sitting opposite her and attempting to wake her before moving beside her and carrying out the assault.
The woman woke during the attack, at which point Pozniecki asked her to sleep with him and offered her £20. She refused and tried to push him away. Both later left the train at Wembley Park station, where the victim moved away and sat on a bench on the platform.
Pozniecki approached her again moments later, drawing the attention of a member of rail staff who noticed his behaviour and intervened, telling him to move away. Once she was alone with the staff member, the woman disclosed what had happened and police were contacted immediately.
Officers attended the station and arrested Pozniecki, taking him into custody for questioning. Detectives from British Transport Police later built a strong case, leading to Pozniecki changing his plea to guilty ahead of trial.
The Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed by the court bans Pozniecki from approaching, touching, staring at, sitting next to or attempting to communicate with lone women across the UK rail network, including the London Underground.
BTP Detective Constable Jamie Saunders said:
"Pozniecki sought out and assaulted a lone woman who was simply travelling home. His abhorrent actions were predatory, and I am pleased to see him handed this jail term. It is thanks to the courage and support of the victim that we have been able to bring him before the courts and put him behind bars for years to come. I would also like to extend my thanks to the member of rail staff who spotted something suspicious, immediately intervened, and called the police. If you experience or witness a sexual offence on-board a train or at a station, I urge you to report it to us by texting 61016. We take every report seriously and will stop at nothing to bring sexual offenders like Pozniecki to justice.”
